01. Ride Away
(Poulou/Smith)
5:02
As we travel through hill and valley
Ridin' away don't know what you do when you accuse me
You're talking about yourself
You think you're a giant
You think you're a nothing hey hey
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
You spread lies and discontent I wish you could see yourself
You drive them away
Through hill and valley
Ridin', ridin', ridin', ridin'
A-hey-hey
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
You think you're a giant you know you're nothing hey
Nothing to do with me
You're gone ridin', ridin', ridin'
You spread lies and discontent
I wish you could see yourself
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
Drivin'
As you travel through hill and valley
Ridin' away
Ridin' away
A-hey-hey
You drive them away
A-hey-hey
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
Well you accuse me you talk about yourself you think you're a giant but you're nothing
You're talking to yourself
And no one else
A-hey-hey
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
Buster
I wish you could see yourself you drive them away
No matter what I say
Hey hey
As you travel through hill and valley drive them away
That's what I say
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
You think you're a giant you think you're a giant hey
As you travel through hill and valley listen what I say
Nothing to do with me
Just ride away
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
While you're ridin' away you remember everything
That I say
Hey hey
Hear what I say
You drive them away
Hey hey
What I say
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
(You drive them away)
02. Pacifying Joint
(Smith)
3:46
I'm only 19
I hit the street
I was looking for
A pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
We carelessly made
Pacifying joint
Or a place where
Nice people should meet
Pacifying joint
The picture is of
The window of Windsor
Or any of their
Sons and daughters
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
With carrots and meat
Pacifying joint
Or a place where
Nice people could meet
I'm only 19
I don't want the kind that
Puts you to sleep
I need pacifying joint
Where treaties are signed
Not their kind
I need a pacifying joint
Where they can understand me (?We carelessly meet/made?)
In a pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Standing on the street
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Pleased to meet
I'd keep your voice down
Keep your voice down
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Pacifying joint
Standing on the street
Pacifying joint
Who you gonna gonna meet?
Pacifying joint
03. What About Us?
(Smith/Poulou)
5:51
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
Well, leg-end... living
We are living leg-ends
The living leg-end
I am a rabbit from East Germany
I was very happy
And I could get anything I want
I was so-oh happy
Then I moved to North Britain
I became an immigrant
I could frolic around all night
In the green grass
I was sort of happy
Ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba ba
But till then one night
By the green grass
By a rubbish receptacle
I saw a newspaper
I was not very happy
There was a man going round all the time
He was dishing out drugs
He was a doctor
Dishing out morphine to old ladies
I said, what about us? (Shipman!)
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us, Shipman?
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us, Shipman?
What about us? (Shipman!)
Hop hop hop!
Hop hop hop!
Hop hop hop!
I'm an immigrant from East Germany
I was sort of happy
I could frolic around a lot
In the train station
I could get a lift that I want
There was a doctor going around
He was dishing out drugs
He was dishing out left and right
To old ladies
So don't get me wrong
People in Great Britain
Please don't get me wrong
Hop hop hop!
Hop hop hop!
Hop hop hop!
Please don't get me wrong
Hop hop hop!
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us, Shipman?
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us, Shipman?
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us, Shipman?
What about us? (Shipman!)
What about us, Shipman?
04. Midnight In Aspen
(Smith/Trafford)
3:13
The fog sticks around
As if he were on
So it goes higher and higher
Till the last
Even chain on jeep is bored
Hyphen
Aspen
Utah
Ice mounting over
Jehovah
Freedom of self-doubt
6 p.m.
Rising
He aims the highest bestest powered rifle at the stars
Orion
It bounces off
The satellite
He was lucky this week
Midnight
05. Assume
(Smith)
4:08
Intro.
Female voices:
...well I think at the end of the bridges there might be a few little shops [...?]
Yes
Yeah
Shall we have a little go at one [...?]
MES:
It's a weird new language init?
It's it's the hunes
It's the hune
The hoons that took over from the hunes
Seven productions, they assumed
Seventh of them were Hume's
Three places
Or I di-ge-gest
If you are a Hume
You assume
They move through the night
At the sky
No destination
They are Humes
If you half assume
You are a Hume
The third term
Is Mr A Court ready, tell
If you half assume
You are a Hume
If you fully assume
You are a Hume
When Cliff Barnes read out in the June
The lyrics of Hey Jude
He was victuous trembling
If you are Hume
You assume
If you don't assume
You are Kapitän
Kapitän!
His verbals, victuals and interest
Trembling is its tech antic [?]
Be he [?]
The watch was blackish in the morn
If you assume
You are a Hume
If you half assume
You are a Hume
Seven productions, they assumed
The seventh of them was a Hume's
It took places I di-ge-gest
I think you guess
And if you are a Hume
You assume
If you don't assume
You are Kapitän!
You are Kapitän!
You are Kapitän!
Tch tch tch tch tch
Tch tch tch tch tch
06. Aspen Reprise
(Smith/Trafford)
1:53
At the constellation of Orion
It bounces back over [?]
But wait till next week
Hard tough believers of
Form pure lights spiritual
But as self [?]
They ascend and hit the mark
Those old Frog 18th Century Revolters [1]
never said anything about this
It bounces back
Over [?] animal jackals
And the gray-red churned up roots
It misses him tonight
But wait till this time next week next midnight
Note:
1. Reference to the French revolution.
07. Blindness
(Smith/Birtwistle)
7:24
The flag is evil
Welcome: living leg-end
I was walking down the street
I saw a poster at the top
I was only on one leg
The streets were fucked
And the poster at the top of street said:
“Do you work hard?”
I was only on one leg
The road hadn't been fixed
I had to be in for half six
I was only on one leg
My blue eyelids were not (?)
There was a curfew at half nine
For my kids
There was a poster at the top of the street
Encapsulated in plastic
It had a blind man
So I said: “Blind man, have mercy on me.”
I said: “Blind man, have mercy on me.”
The flat is evil and full of cavalry and Calvary
And calvary and cavalry.
“Do you work hard?”
It said, “I am from Hebden Bridge.
Somebody said to me: I can't understand a word you said."
Said: “99% of non smokers die”
“Do you work hard?”
“Do you work hard?”
I was walking down the street
And saw a picture of a blind man
The flat is evil
Of core? cavalry and calvary
Of core(?)
Blind man, have mercy on me
Said, blind man, have mercy on me
??
I am a ?
My blues eye get…ID/I get
My curfew was due half eight
Now its half past six
My curfew is at 9:30
I said. “Do you?”
Blind man! Have mercy on me
Blind man! Have mercy on me
Blind man! Have mercy on me
I’m on one leg
My eyes can’t get fixed
And my kids
Can’t blue eyes get fixed
Blind man! Have mercy on me
Blind man! Have mercy on me
08. I Can Hear The Grass Grow
(Wood)
2:51
See the people all in line
Was making them look at me
Can't imagine that their minds
Are thinkin' the same as me
'Cos I can hear the grass grow
I can hear the grass grow
I hear rainbows in the evening
My head's attracted to
Magnetic wave of sound
With a wave of common circles
Glisten its way around
'Cos I can hear the grass grow
I can hear the grass grow
I hear rainbows in the evening
Can't seem to fathom out the sound
And my senses form a micro
Get a hold of yourself now baby
You know I need you to help now baby
Get a hold of yourself now baby
Put your head down to the ground
And listen to your mind
If you don't know what I found
I know that you're not my kind
'Cos I can hear the grass grow
I can hear the grass grow
I hear rainbows in the evening
Can't seem to fathom out the time
My senses form a micro
Get a hold of yourself now baby
You know I need you to help now baby
Get a hold of yourself now baby
See the people all in line
Was making them look at me
Can't imagine that their minds
Are thinkin' the same as me
'Cos I can hear the grass grow
I hear rainbows in the evening
And I can hear the grass grow
I hear rainbows in the evening
09. Bo Demmick
(Smith)
4:16
He was called
He was called... a lot of things
A lot
Like a party
It was very peculiar
Mr invited .....8.30
Invited... 8.30
For the CD that you hold in your hand... is a construction of a left sided mind
He was called... a lot of things
It was peculiar
You need a tape... of Derek.. Bo
Go to the Hulme missionary console
Moderninity... what it is?
Moderninity...what it is?
Invited.. invited..
8.30...8.30...
It was peculiar
He was called.. he was called... a lot of things
Expected... 8.30...it was peculiar...
I said... where's my record?
Give it me!
Well we have had 2 and a half weeks
There's 5 of us
They were multiplying so fast ... bo.... bo
I was mystified, i was mystified...mystified
Now the cd that you hold in your hand...
Is a construction by a left sided mind...itsa
It was peculiar...8.30... 8.30....8.30...8.30
Mystified
10. Youwanner
(Smith/Archer/Pritchard)
5:02
There's always work
in progress
You're always in work in progress
I coulda had a life
Coulda had a wife he said
There's always someone round me
Not her
You wanner
Always someone around me
Not her
Always someone around me
But it's not her
And you say
I've never felt like this
With anyone else
So you moan all day
You're a moaner
You wanner x 4
You never ever get the time
Never eer get the time together
Work in progress
It is the outsidedness flavour of it
You wanner
A work in progress
Due about 2026
You wanner x 3
(Work in progress) You say you never felt like this
(Work in progress) With anyone else
(work in progress) So you moan
(Work in Progress) Never ever get the time alone together
Ah,
You wanner x6
It's the outsidedness flavour of it
You wanner x2
As meandering through the trash pedal (?weight?) of your investment guest solo
You wanner x2
Never ever get the time alone together
Ah,
You wanner x 2
Because she's a man, you (?take the line?)
I coulda had a life
Coulda had a - whup!
You wanna
(A work in progress) I coulda had a life
I coulda (?read?)
(A work in progress) But I'm living alone
(A work in progress) Never felt like this before
(A work in progress) With anyone else
(A work in progress) Never get the time together alone
(Work in progress)
Meandering through the trash pedal (?weight?) investments of your go-solo ??
You wanner
I've never felt like this with anyone else
You wanner
Yeah-yeah-yeah-you wanner
Y-y-you never ever get the time alone together
You wanner
N-n-never get the time together
It's the outsidedness flavour of it
11. Clasp Hands
(Smith/Trafford)
2:46
We're going down on N-ineteen
At 4:30 a.m.
And we grasped the hands
In N.Y.C.
It was Steve's song
Clasp hands
Well perhaps it's so familiar
In a blue bus
It was a pleasure
The lights were wolverines
A cuckoo is talking
So we clasped hands
We grasped hands
We're going down N.Y.C.
Steve's song
A woman named Pearl was talking to me
And we all clasped hands
It was clockwork tears
And we all clasped hands
It was one of the best shows ever seen
Ludicrous, majestic and exhilarating
Priscilla Chaos is a lustrous jewel
And we all clasped hands
In N.Y.C.
12. Early Days of Channel Fuhrer
(Smith/Pritchard)
3:48
The smoke is all around is all around
Like my hands back my hands
The snow is all around
Like my hands
Its is also
And the whites' brushes against me
In Europe
And the man who brushes against me
In the un-Vienna midweek [?]
Is shaking
(Where is all the chocolate gone? Where is all the chocolate gone?)
No coffee for me
No room clearance for me
For
Der Meister is in Heathrow [his room?]
S.T. rag
My only pal is
No coffee for me
For I am he
For I am he
For no room clearance for me
For I am he
For I am he
(Fade out)
(Shoo)
13. Breaking The Rules
(Walker)
2:26
I was tryin' to break the rules
Life is a dream
So it seems
Flash your picture in a magazine
Look who's passin'
In a limousine
Look who's a fallin' star
An ancient story
An innocent fool
He broke his mind tryin' to break the rules
I waste my time tryin' to b-b-b-b-break the rules
Build up the wall
Knock it down again
I don't wanna talk about it now
The central issue
Overall limit
I spend it in the town
I broke my mind
Tryin' to break the rules
I broke my mind tryin' to break the rules
(?)
Red red lips
On a cappuccino dress
Feasting on dead duck
Same old story
Pay alimony
We spent your share and give us ours
I paid my life tryin' to break the rules
I broke my life tryin' to break the rules
14. Trust In Me
(Smith/Trafford)
3:35
Their dent? is your superlative
The story
You can talk to me in all confidentiality
Trust in me
I am Doctor? Lee
After you've left the surgery
Don't you worry
I will come round your house [this line is fluffed]
For tea
Trust in me
Dr Lee
Messengers endure being given gifts
every 3 days
If you need an x-ray (Trust in me)
I will come to your house and do it for free (Dr Lee)
After you've left surgery
Don't you worry
I'll come around to your home
For a cup of tea
Trust in me (Dr Lee)
Passengers? enjoy being given gifts
Every 3 months
And if you need an x-ray
I'll come round to your house
And do it for free

Released in the USA on 4 October 2005 on Narnack Records CD: NCK7033; LP: NCK7033 (2 LPs); Limited Edition LP: NCK7033 (2 LPs); Limited Edition CD: NCK7033. The US version has different cover artwork (see image gallery). The CD tracklisting is the same as the UK CD. The LP was spread over double vinyl in the US rather than a single LP as in the UK - side 1: tracks 1-3; side 2: tracks 4-6; side 3: tracks 7-9; side 4: tracks 11-14. Track 7 is an alternate version (7:08), unique to the US LP.
The standard US LP was a pressing of 1,250 copies. The limited edition LP was pressed on white marble-swirled vinyl and limited to 750 copies. The limited edition CD was a solid black CD and limited to 5,000 copies. The US CD cover lists the tracks in the wrong order; a separate insert sheet with the correct tracklisting was included with most copies.
