DARTS, the student paper: "“Forced into competition with the radical trash of the Fall, the hype of the ‘New American Rock’ did the Long Ryders no harm at all audience-wise, overcoming the gruesome timetable clash to some extent but depriving a lot of people of the chance to see both bands.”

Peter: "Leicester was interesting as Simon Rogers did not play because he was doing something for the BBC. The set was a bit different to the others at this stage of the tour. Also Barry Sutton and Lol Geoghan came on stage and did handclaps during What You Need (which was amusing!). They were roadying at the time and were part of Marshmallow Overcoat who supported the Fall at the 31.10.85 Krackers gig (billed as Clive and Vera of Heswall)(!). Barry was later part of the Walking Seeds who supported the Fall on some of the May 1987 tour."

Wednesday, 23 October 1985   Bournemouth Town Hall

No tape exists? The ending of this gig was memorialized in "Bournemouth Runner."

Mick: It was October 1985 and the Fall played at the Bournemouth Town Hall, a venue that no longer exists as it has been rebuilt into office buildings, but it did host some excellent gigs, namely TRB supported by a very young and crap U2 (some things never change), Cabaret Voltaire, The Cure, SLF and almost Crass (which the council cancelled at the last minute).

From what I can remember, it was an excellent gig and apart from when they played Poole Arts Centre in 1990, the only one they've done in the area.

After the encore, Terry Stoate who like myself has been a Fall fan since the seventies, jumped on to the stage and pulled off the backdrop, which was at the back of the stage (The Fall surrounded by the swirly circle like on the Wonderful and Frightening album cover). He jumped off the stage, said to me come on and ran out of the side door.

A couple of bouncers chased after him and after about 200 yards, they caught him and I arrived just in time to see the last punch thrown and the backdrop being taken back. Terry was still smiling though! He was smiling even more when the track "The Bournemouth Runner" was released and for a while, ran a removals firm under the same name. The backdrop though was never seen again.

I met Mark E Smith in the George Hotel having a pint before the Poole gig and asked him about it and he said they never saw it again!

ps I saw Bournemouth play at Oldham in 1988 and stayed in the hotel where the Ghost in my House video was shot in North Manchester!

Ajay's audio:

A correspondent reports that the band had fish and chips before the gig, and Brix requested a TV so she could watch "Dynasty." The setlist he sent differs from Ajay's recording.

Shaun: "I had a nigh-on unlistenable tape, I recorded on an old 70’s tape recorder, borrowed at the last minute, without checking if it actually recorded at this gig once, I did get the accurate set list from this tape and there was certainly Barmy, Draygo's Guilt and Stephen Song, between Couldn't Get Ahead and 2X4.
I do remember cursing at having to turn the tape over during Drago’s Guilt as it was one of my favourites!
I didn’t know at the time it would all be a sack of shit on the tape!
I did not record the encore at the time in it’s entirity but I am sure they did (unusually!) a second encore which was just a very long version of 'No Bulbs'. The rest of the set list is correct.
That night I tried to sleep, stranded, with 5 others in a bus shelter and it was -7 degrees. The next morning was Sunday and there were no buses to Lancaster until 10 a.m. !! A NIGHTMARE ! But worth it for a great 90 minute set!"
