gigography 2000

------------------

March 2000 : "Live 1977" album released

Monday, 20 March 2000   Wellington Club, Hull (cancelled)

Gig cancelled in support of bands who had played there recently but had not been paid.

------------------

Tuesday, 21 March 2000   Yales, Wrexham

Tony: "I thought you'd like to know that the March 21st 2000 gig at Yales in Wrexham didn't take place, of this I'm 99.99% sure. I knew they were trying to get a club going in Wrexham but they tried to book acts before the club was finished and when I phoned up to try to order a ticket the manager told me it would be a waste of time the group would not be appearing as a mate or someone had tried to book the band without his (the Manager's) say so."

Shift Worker: "Just been looking at the gigography from 2000 and I can confirm that the Fall gig at Yales in Wrexham did go ahead on the above date, as I was there. Basically, Yales is part of a 2 part venue. Yales is the 'cafe/bar' part and Central Station is the nightclub upstairs, holding about 600 people. The Fall are playing at Central Station in October I think. In 2000, The Fall played downstairs at Yales bar which surprised me as the place is tiny and it was absolutely packed. I don't have the ticket anymore unfortunately, to back this up, if you go to their website though, I think they still have pictures of the Fall gig in 2000 (www.centralstation-yales.co.uk). Ps, can't remember the setlist sorry as I was drunk....but I'm sure they played Shake Off."

To save you the trouble of finding them (they're buried on that Yales site), the photos in question:

Mark bumped into Craig Scanlon at a pub in Prestwich a few days beforehand, and invited Craig to play at this, the last date of the mini UK tour. Sadly, and for reasons unknown, Craig didn't turn up. Many thanks to David Humphries for all the images. Reviews on the Fall news (scroll down).

David writes on his website:

"The Duchess Of York in Leeds (now sadly closed) was a traditional pub venue, that had seen bands as diverse as Kevin Coyne, Oasis and Nirvana. It finally closed on the 26th March 2000 with a farewell concert by Chumbawamba, only to be gutted and turned into a shopping precinct. A sad loss. The Fall were a surprise addition to their rosta in the last week. Previously they'd played at the much larger Irish Centre. However the smaller, tighter venue suited them, and they were stunningly good that night."

Saturday, 17 June 2000   Dexter's, Dundee

Not the West Bar as previously listed. Alan: "I was delighted to meet, chat and drink with Jim Watts and Mark in the Tickety Boo's pub beforehand (they had popped in to watch the England vs Germany football match on TV - England won 1-0). The pair of them had so much to drink that they were a bit disorientated when we left the pub. Jim was hungry and wandered off into the distance, in search of food. I was a bit worried that he might not be able to find his way to Dexter's but Mark just said: 'Nah, he'll be alright'."
